E20 is petrol blended with 20% ethanol and 80% petrol. India pushed it as the default retail fuel to cut oil imports and support domestic ethanol. The debate is not only about the blend — it is about making that blend the only practical option at most pumps.

Are you against ethanol completely?

No. Ethanol blending can be a legitimate policy tool. Our demand is consumer choice: keep E20 available if the government wants it, but also sell E0 (100% petrol) — and clearly label what is in the nozzle. Forced single-option retail is the problem.

Why are older vehicles more affected?

Most petrol bikes and cars sold before roughly 2023 were calibrated for lower ethanol blends (often E10 or less). Higher ethanol can mean lower mileage because ethanol has less energy per litre, and it can stress older rubber seals, hoses and fuel-system parts that were never designed for continuous E20.

Is the mileage drop real?

Owner surveys say yes for many older vehicles. LocalCircles (June 2026, public) found 66% of pre-2023 petrol owners reporting more than a 10% mileage drop, including 23% of mileage respondents reporting over 20%. The government has acknowledged some efficiency hit for older vehicles while disputing widespread engine-destruction claims. We cite the survey — we did not invent the percentage. Can E20 damage my engine?

Immediate catastrophic failure is not what most owners report. What shows up more often is clogged injectors and filters, jerky running, stalling, and higher service bills. Long-term wear on non-compatible materials is the open question. Keep logs and invoices. A reported Raipur consumer-forum order (2026) linked repeated stalling after E20 to manufacturer liability in that case.

What is E0 and why demand it?

E0 means unblended (100%) petrol. Demanding E0 at pumps restores a real option for vehicles that were never sold as E20-ready, and for owners who want to choose. Choice that only exists in a press release is not choice.

What should I do if my vehicle is suffering?

Log mileage and fuel receipts. Get service reports in writing. Ask your dealer for a written warranty position on E20 for your model year. If defects persist and responsibility is denied, consumer forums are one lawful route. See the Take Action section on this site.

AAP says MLAs will move E20 resolutions in Goa, Gujarat, J&K

After Punjab’s Assembly resolution, Kejriwal said AAP legislators in Goa, Gujarat and Jammu & Kashmir will table similar anti-mandatory-E20 resolutions. No fixed dates yet.

What was announced? On 4 August 2026, after Punjab’s Vidhan Sabha passed a resolution against mandatory E20, Arvind Kejriwal said AAP MLAs in Goa, Gujarat and Jammu & Kashmir would move similar resolutions in their Assemblies.

Numbers he cited (as reported): AAP has two MLAs in Goa, five in Gujarat and one in J&K. He said the party knows BJP-ruled Houses may block the resolutions, but AAP will still place them on record.

Linked warning: Kejriwal also said that if E20 is not withdrawn / reviewed, the country could see a larger public movement. That is a political warning — not a dated protest call yet.

Status today (5 Aug): No confirmed Assembly calendar dates for Goa, Gujarat or J&K motions have been widely reported. Treat this as a watch item, not a locked event.
