Centre tells Parliament: no plan to go back to E0 or E10

What did the Centre say? In replies in Parliament (including to AAP MP Sanjay Singh), the government said the ethanol blending programme was phased and consulted with bodies like NITI Aayog, ARAI, SIAM and oil companies. It said there is no proposal to revert to E0 or E10 as the normal petrol at pumps.

Why not keep E0/E10 too? The ministry argued that running separate nationwide supply chains for E0, E10 and E20 at more than one lakh pumps would raise logistics and cost. It said policy must balance convenience, energy security, environment and farmers.

On mileage and damage: Government and minister Nitin Gadkari have cited studies saying older vehicles generally do not show abnormal wear on E20, and that any mileage drop in some E10-designed vehicles is often around 2–6% (or about 3–5% in some FAQ replies). They say warranties are still honoured and that industry executives backed E20 at a July press meet.

On the other side: Consumer surveys, transporters and opposition parties say many owners feel a bigger hit, and demand choice. A Raipur consumer commission order on a Grand Vitara case has also been widely reported; Maruti says it will challenge that order and blames contaminated fuel.
